In July 2009, the VIII Theological Symposium of the South American Division took place in Brazil. Theological symposiums are organized by universities in different countries of the South American Division and are primarily opportunities for biblical scholars and theologians to meet, listen to lectures, and exchange ideas. This time a large number of pastors was also invited so that the audience numbered about 800 persons. The Biblical Research Institute was represented by Drs. Ángel Manuel Rodríguez, Clinton Wahlen, and Ekkehardt Mueller. The main theme of the conference focused on mission. A consensus statement was voted at the end of the meetings.
