Bulgarian Union Eschatology Course

From August 30 to September 3, 2009, about 70 ministers of the Bulgarian Union met at a holiday lodge in the Rhodope Mountains, south of Plovdiv, for a crash course on eschatology. Gerhard Pfandl presented 28 lectures on biblical and historical aspects of the church’s teaching on the millennium and the time of the end. Vigorous discussions after each lecture testified to the interest and importance of this topic for the Bulgarian ministers.

Book of Daniel Symposium in Peru

More than 1000 people attended a symposium on the book of Daniel, held on the campus of Universidad Peruana Union near Lima, Peru, October 10 and 11, 2009. Main speakers were Merling Alomia, former president of the university, and Gerhard Pfandl, associate director of the Biblical Research Institute of the General Conference.

Bible Symposium in Poland

Dr. J. Moskala (Andrews University) and Dr. E. Mueller (BRI) were invited to be the lecturers for a Bible Symposium organized by the Polish Union for all their pastors and elders. The theological part of the meetings took place at the Polish Senior College of Theology and Humanities near Warsaw from September 21stto the 23rd. The lectures were dealing with the doctrine of the Godhead and the Book of Revelation. The meetings were not only well-attended by the target audience but also by the leaders of the Polish Union and the local Conferences. A wonderful spirit of fellowship and unity prevailed, finding its climax in the celebration of the Lord’s Supper.

Asia-Pacific Division Bible Land Tour

During the month of March, thirty-five Seventh-day Adventists from the Asia-Pacific Division accompanied by Gerhard Pfandl from the Biblical Research Institute traveled through Jordan and Israel visiting such sites as Petra and Mount Nebo in Jordan and Masada and the Dead Sea in Israel. Highlights were the visits to the Garden of Gethsemane and a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee. Memorable moments were also sitting on the Mount of Olives overlooking Jerusalem and standing in front of the Wailing Wall watching the Jewish people worshiping their Creator. The trip was not only interesting but a spiritual experience for all participants.

VIII Theological Symposium iin the South American Division

In July 2009, the VIII Theological Symposium of the South American Division took place in Brazil. Theological symposiums are organized by universities in different countries of the South American Division and are primarily opportunities for biblical scholars and theologians to meet, listen to lectures, and exchange ideas. This time a large number of pastors was also invited so that the audience numbered about 800 persons. The Biblical Research Institute was represented by Drs. Ángel Manuel Rodríguez, Clinton Wahlen, and Ekkehardt Mueller. The main theme of the conference focused on mission. A consensus statement was voted at the end of the meetings.

2nd Theological Symposium in Montemorelos University

Hundreds of administrators, theologians, and pastors considered the topic of "The Prophecies of the End Time and the Writings of Ellen G. White and the Contemporary Church" at the 2nd Theological Symposium held on the campus of Montemorelos University from July 22-25, 2009. Clinton Wahlen of BRI presented two papers at the conference.
