In the 1980s critics of Ellen White used the discovery of transcripts of Dammon's arrest and trial to suggest that Ellen White supported and even participated in this pandemonium. New historical sources challenge such assumptions and suggest instead that Ellen White's account should be considered reliable as she rebuked Dammon and other early fanatics.
